2. Methods

Dear reader,

This week was the week of thinking about the methods of my research. Firstly I was a little bit concerned of how I should do all the fieldwork. What is my actual research object and what are the topics of coral reef health I would like to discuss with those who are being researched. Overall, I asked myself the question: What am I actually gonna do on Curaçao?

Luckily I’m still following the last course the masters and I got a lecture on participating observations, which was really interesting. The lecturer went to Japan for his pHd to study woman workers in Inns (kind of hostels); and therefore he was helping them with working in these Inns to get more insights in their perspectives and how they perceive the world. And this made me think!!! In the end the idea of this thesis is to study differences in knowledge from ontological communities and how these can be integrated in a DSS. Participating observation can help with getting more insights in the ontological communities and what the relevant ontological communities are.

So this were my new insights of this week and next to these participating observations I’m thinking of combining this with semi-structured interviews and informal conversations to deepen the insights. These methods have been described, together with a list of interesting sectors and a Item list.

Thanks for reading and I will keep you updated.

Michiel
