Hi! Nice that you visit my website. My name is Michiel Bader, 26 years old and born in Tilburg, a city of the Netherlands. As a child I was always interested in water and nature.
This interest developed to a hobby in the aquariumworld and followed by a Bachelor Forest and Nature conservation at Wageningen University. During this study, the governance part of nature policy came on my path. This specific area gave me knowledge about how people with different cultural backgrounds, can have different interpretations on how nature can and should be governed. Trying to give answers to these kind of questions it is, in my opinion, really important to have an open mindset on peoples’ opinions and interpretations.
At the end of my bachelor I decided to focus more on marine environments. Therefore I started the Master Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management in Wageningen. During this study I learned a lot about marine ecology. Although I am really interested in species and ecological interactions, I choose to specialize in marine governance. During this specialization I learned more about governing marine stakeholders, marine protected area’s (mpa’s), coral reefs and other related environments. In other words, the interactions between society and the marine nature really interests me and I believe that we (as people) can learn about this for the rest of our lives.
Currently I work as Policy Advisor Wadden at the Province of Groningen in the Netherlands. This job consists of multiple tasks including: developing and improving current Wadden(sea) policies, stakeholder management and lots of networking. Next to these tasks I am part of the interprovincial workgroup that realizes projects for a more vital coastline and ecosystem.
Besides this job I spent one day of the week at the National Water Traineeship. This traineeship is a traject for 2 years, which gives me the opportunity to discover multiple organizations within the watersector. In addition, the traineeship offers me workshops and trainings to develop my personal and professional (soft) skills. In other words: the perfect start of my professional career.
Besides this, I’m also busy with more creative hobbies, like playing guitar, writing songs and making video’s. This website will also contain some of these more creative projects.
This website will serve the purpose of a platform where all these kinds of projects come together, so all information for myself and for those who are interested can be found in one place.
I would like to thank everyone who visits this website. Take a look around and if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to get in contact via the contact page.
Michiel
