Dear reader,
since I’m on the island for some days now I kind of get used to the life in Willemstad. In my opinion, the city is really chaotic and there is a lot going on 24/7. Cars, music, tourists, locals, sounds I know, sounds I don’t know, rich people, poor people, Italians, Spanish, Dutch, American and everyone in between. What a Chaos! And the thing is… I have realized that I was in Wageningen for the last 5/6 years and I was really in another bubble, while this is such a different life over here. However, people in this city are also in their own bubble; and I have the possibility to experience their bubble for some time, which I’m grateful for.
I think that all my experiences I have had so far have changed me to the person I can be within this bubble. So the question is; do these experiences make me who I am, or does my interpretation of these experiences makes me who I become? I don’t know, but one thing I know is that I slowly become part of this Caribbean bubble.
One part of these experiences is the experience I have had so far with Reef Renewal. The coming months I will help them with their daily activities as part of my research; to get a better idea of the frames of divers. So on Monday I follow the Coral Nursery course of Padi and on Wednesday I already helped with making some new buoys and cleaning the coral trees. To me it feels like these activities help with creating new coral reefs, but the created reefs also feel like really man-made reefs. So there is a little conflict in my mind of what I really think of these activities. However, I think that participating in more of their activities the coming months will help me with forming my ideas on the coral nurseries.

More information will follow soon!
Ayo!
